Programme description

The study is aimed at scientific research, education and independent creative activity of geologists, with emphasis given on environmental geology and interdisciplinary research. The experience of the Department of Geology, its foreign co-laboration, instrumental equipment and facilities, publications, scientific projects and prevailing topics of the Master´s theses constitute the groundworks of this doctoral study programme. An emphasis is given to geochemistry, hydrogeochemistry, sedimentology, stratigraphy, applied petrology and their environmental applications such as the fate of pollutants in the environment, contamination history studies, analysis of stratigraphic record and groundwater pollution. The Department of Geology has sufficient staff, material and instrumental facilities to guarantee this doctoral school at an internationally comparable level.

Graduates’ profile

The aim of the study programme is to prepare the students for creative work in research and development (universities, scientific centres and company laboratories), in institutions and companies engaged in geological and geophysical research and surveys, exploration and production for minerals, fuels and water, environmental research and monitoring, waste disposal and alternative building materials, both on domestic and international labour market.
